The day before he turned 86 (this Wednesday, 24), Ziraldo was discharged from the Hospital Pró-Cardíaco, in Rio, where he had been admitted since September 26. The cartoonist was admitted at the time with a hemorrhagic stroke (CVA) and was in serious condition for a few days. He left the hospital on Tuesday, 23.
Then, Ziraldo had a “good clinical evolution”, according to the Hospital, and was transferred to the Semi-Intensive Unit (USI) on September 30, when he started receiving physical therapy treatment.
In 2013, the cartoonist had already suffered a mild heart attack when he was out of the country, to participate in the Frankfurt Book Fair (Germany). Then, Ziraldo underwent a catheterization. In 2014, he was admitted to the same hospital to undergo tests.
Currently, two exhibitions in São Paulo celebrate the artist’s work: “Os Planetas de Ziraldo”, at Casa Melhoramentos, and “Ziraldo… from A to Zi”, which is at Sesc Interlagos. The exhibits present several facets of the 85-year-old artist, and show how Ziraldo united the ability to enchant audiences of all ages and, at the same time, make social criticisms.
