Walt Disney Studios is determined to transform all of its classic animations into powerful live-action productions. Previous films have grossed more than $ 4.5 billion at the worldwide box office, and even with Mulan still in development, a new title is already in the studios’ sights: The Little Mermaid.
The popular story of the mermaid Ariel, who left the ocean to search for her enchanted love on land, may be the next production to leave the roles and Disney is already committed to casting an actress to star in the plot.
Apparently, Zendaya, who previously worked on the Disney Channel, was recently contacted for the role. It is not yet known if the actress accepted, but with this proposal, it is already expected that Disney wants to give a new path to the film, considering the little physical similarities of the actress with the character of the 1989 animated film.
It is already known that Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will join to compose the music for the film and that Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall will direct the production with screenplay by Jane Goldman (X-Men: Days of the Past) . The film should be shot in Puerto Rico and Cape Town, Africa.
The list of upcoming Disney remakes includes Dumbo, The Lion King, Aladdin and Maleficent 2.
The Little Mermaid has no set release date.
