The verb shippar (from English, to ship) means to support or cheer for a couple.
Shipper – or supercasal – is formed by two famous people or fictional characters who maintain a loving relationship and attract the admiration of the audience that accompanies it.
It is impossible to speak of a shipper without mentioning Brangelina – which is equivalent to the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie -, one of the biggest supercases in the world of the famous or the controversial Jelena – couple Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez – that moved the decade between comings and goings, being one of the first couples of the generation that viralized the term shipper.
And in fiction, too, Troy and Gabriela, from High School Music, are not left behind on this subject, who led the public to ship a couple when they didn’t know what shippar meant.
But what drives people to ship couples?
Leaving the theory and going to practice, in a quick search on Twitter, 50 people were asked why to ship a couple, either in real life or in fiction, and the answers were similar in almost all aspects: the idealization of a perfect couple through celebrities and characters, chemistry, physical appearance and combination between those involved, in addition to public interactions among other factors.
The answer is only exact for the fictional medium, because it is possible to perceive the construction of a couple, the development of feelings and everything. In real life it seems more complex, some of the things listed above are just assumptions that are sometimes lost between reality and fiction.
As an example, Larry (Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson) and Camren (Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui), who were partners in their respective music groups, shipped, there was never any real confirmation that they were real couples or if they were just guesses and conspiracy theories.
But, even so, there is a legion of fans that accompany them, as there is no way to know everything that happens in the life of a public figure, however exposed the person is and does not have the couple’s development in a service of or in a book.
Putting all the facts found here together, we can say that the biggest reason that leads people to ship a couple is only entertainment, the hobby of accompanying the lives of other people, whether real or fictitious, but that the reasons that make them ship they are diverse facts that change depending on the public that admires and / or identifies with each couple.
