After a frustrating debut the previous week with Birds of prey, Sonic – The Movie showed that all is not lost in this pre-summer season. With reasonable criticism (63% in the Rotten Tomatoes) and great public acceptance (received an ‘A’ in the CinemaScore), the feature surpassed the studio’s expectations and broke records.

Sonic – The Movie recorded the best debut for an adaptation of video game of history. Overcoming established franchises, such as resident Evil and tomb Raider, as angry Birds, Rampage and so many others. Over the three-day weekend, the film raised 58 million of dollars.

Fantasy Island it was another weekend premiere with a fundraiser of 12.325 million of dollars and placing itself in the third place overall. The performance of the feature was within expectations and has already exceeded its budget of 07 million dollars. It is expected to be more successful, as usual for titles of the horror genre, in international markets.

Another notable debut was the praised love story The Photography starring David Oyelowo. With a warm welcome from critics (74% on RT) and the public (B + on CinemaScore), the film was released with 12.180 million of dollars. The film was budgeted at $ 17 million.

Finally, the remake in Downhill it also surprised despite somewhat negative criticism from the press. Were 4.610 million dollars, higher than what Searchlight expected. Based on the Swedish film Force Majeure released in 2014, the American feature brings Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus ahead of the cast.
