Universal Pictures cancels launch of The Hunt due to US shootings.

THE Universal Pictures announced today (10) that the film The hunt, from the producer Blumhouse, will not be released in the U.S. on the scheduled date for September.

The studio had already suspended the feature’s marketing campaign (the trailer no longer appears on the studio’s YouTube channel), after new mass shootings hit the U.S. in the cities of El Paso, Texas, Dayton, Ohio, and Gilroy, in California.

In a statement the studio stated that “after deeply considering the situation, the studio decided to cancel plans to release the film. We support the producers, and we will continue to distribute films in partnership with creative visionaries, just like the ones who created this suspense with social satire, but we understand that now is not the right time to release the film.“.

The national subsidiary did not comment on a possible cancellation of the film in Brazil.

With direction Craig Zobel and script of Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, details of the plot have not been revealed, only that the feature will follow the disagreements between voters from the left and right of the USA.

In the cast we have Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley, Glenn Howerton, Ike Barinholtz, Hilary Swank, and Amy Madigan.
