Another production based on O Grito is on its way: this time, the Netflix set out to adapt the popular Japanese horror film in a serial format. The production was announced at a recent streaming platform event in Japan and, with Sho Miyake at the helm, is expected to debut in 2020. No further details have been revealed yet.
Another remake of the 2000s hit, this time on film, will hit theaters in January next year, described by director Nicolas Pesce as something “very different from The Grudge you have known in the past,” according to a report to Entertainment Weekly.
As for the changes that can occur in the plot and displease the audience, Pesce continues: “These films will always exist and will always be there for you to watch, I think the horror audience these days is looking for a much more grounded story, much more realistic, much more based on characters in your horror movies. We see what’s going well now and it’s these smarter, more nuanced horror stories, and that’s what it’s going to be. We’re trying to update it to contemporary sensibilities and we have an unbelievable cast, I think it will be something very different. There are thousands of O Scream films out there, and we wanted to find a way to give it a new spin, and this is going to be exciting. “
The original story tells of the murder of a family when the husband finds out that his wife is in love with another man. However, spirits will not settle until the killer is killed – or even after that, starting a tradition of killing anyone who inhabits this house.
