The wave of Disney’s live-action continues, and The Little Mermaid will be the next classic to be adapted.
With Sean Bailey at the helm of the project, the President of Disney’s Productions says that the project will have to undergo some changes as, today, some issues addressed by the film would not be well regarded.
He comments: “Well, I don’t want to talk about it too much, because it involves some changes in the plot. It’s something we talk about a lot. We are definitely working to still provide the beautiful foundations of this story, while we are aware of the times where we are. “
This, however, was already expected: if since the release of the animated film in 1989, many things have changed, imagine since the original classic, written by Hans Christian Anderson in the mid 1800s?
We still don’t know how, but the story of a mermaid who exchanges her voice for a pair of legs to fulfill the desire to meet a human prince may not be exactly as expected.
With Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Jacob Tremmblay, Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs already confirmed in the cast, it remains to be seen when the film will be released.
