Star Trek: Discovery put everyone on the Discovery ship on a hunt for Starfleet, everyone who remained with Captain Pike, Michael and Spock were against the Fleet and considered criminals. The problem is that in the meantime Admiral Cornwell herself entered such a category.
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains information about the main events of the episode. Continue reading at your own risk.
With them needing to go to the Section 31 Control Center, what we see is a trip destined for destruction itself, since the very environment around the center where Section 31 is allocated contains explosive mines. I liked the way they presented the site and how the most dangerous section of Starfleet remains hidden and protected even after the war.
But in the meantime we have something very intense for the series, Airiam. The way they introduced the character, the choices of memories she would keep, the way she and her husband “died”, but she stayed alive as an android, something she doesn’t like to be called, and her friendship with Tilly, Joan , Detmer, Nhan and Michael.
Within Section 31, and ready to restart Starfleet Central Control to regain access to plans, what we found is that artificial intelligence is willing to do anything to keep thinking and in control of all possible information, and so take them away from those of conscious life.
So we have Cornwell, Pike, Spock and Saru discovering that the intention of artificial intelligence is to destroy all life, making Spock’s vision, given by the Red Angel, become even more real.
Only one problem along the way: Airiam.
The way the series introduced her and killed the character was so sensitive. There was development, fear, love, affection, difficult decisions and the fact that everyone admired her friend. Star Trek: Discovery drafts the character so far, and here he did the job of adding layers and depth to it, and made us suffer with its outcome.
Before dying an alert: Michael is the center of all this and to go after the Daedalus Project. No details yet …
Fact is that Daedalus in Greek mythology is an architect, built the labyrinth that contained the minotaur, and made several discoveries regarding matter, forms and universe. He even killed his own nephew out of jealousy.
Star Trek: Discovery now it focuses on developing the path that the Red Angel must follow to avoid the great tragedy of the future, in addition to showing that Spock did not kill anyone, and that Artificial Intelligence created holograms to contain lies and prevent Spock from telling what he knows.
