News for the exit of Spider man in the MCU!
At the end of August, it was announced that Sony Pictures had chosen not to renew the agreement with Disney, and thus keep the character in the MCU.
And now, during the Variety’s Entertainment & Technology Summit, a meeting on the entertainment industry held by the magazine, executive Tony Vinciquerra, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures gave some more details about the negotiations, and said “For now the door is closed”.
The agreement between the studio and Marvel Studios allows the character to have his own films in the Universe that Sony develops around Spider-Man, and also allows Peter Parker to show up in the Universe created by Disney. Thus, the deal ended with Spider-Man: Far from Home, released in 2019 (read more about here).
The executive said, via Variety, “We had a good journey with Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, in the Spider-Man films. We tried to see if we could find a way to make it work … the Marvel people are great, we have a lot of respect for them … but on the other hand, we also have a great respect for ours. Feige did not do the job alone. ”
The universe of Spider-Man at Sony, outside the MCU, is composed of Venom, the sequel that arrives in 2020, Morbius, and some series that will take place in the world of the character. The animation Spider-Man at AranhaVerso won the Oscar for Best Animation and should lead the animated part in the future.
The future of the character, which previously seemed uncertain, at least until now, is right. What is your opinion?
