The current coronavirus pandemic has frozen film releases, but industry studios are already thinking about announcements for the comeback, and as for Paramount Pictures, we can expect confirmation of a Sonic sequel.

The film hit theaters in February this year and was a huge box office and critical success, contrary to what was expected during its development phase – and, mainly, because it had to undergo a makeover in the character’s look.

The information about the possible continuation is from Jeff Bock, a box office analyst: the studio already seemed confident in continuing the franchise by introducing the character Tails in a post-credit scene that drove fans of the game crazy in theaters.

In a recent interview, director Jeff Fowler also revealed he was excited to bring the characters together in a second film, indicating that Sonic 2 should happen. Its official announcement, however, remains undefined until the end of the coronavirus pandemic – and the reopening of Hollywood industry.

Remember the synopsis of the first film:

“Based on the world-renowned SEGA game franchise, #SonicOFilme tells the story of the world’s fastest hedgehog as he adapts to his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) need to come together to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for total domination. The perfect family movie also features Tika Sumpter and Manolo Rey in the voice of Sonic! “
