What many expected was happening: in an interview with The Sun, director Michael Gracey confirmed that he was working on the highly anticipated sequel to The Greatest Showman, a 2017 film that was given as the third biggest musical in cinema history.
“When a film becomes such a hit, it is natural that there is a demand for a sequel. These discussions started and we are working on a sequel now,” he says.
Gracey also comments that the first film was very difficult to make: “There were many doubts about the film for a long time and some sponsors even withdrew their money”.
In the opening feature, starring Hugh Jackman, the story is told PT Barnum, a man who, after losing his job, has the idea of creating a museum of bizarre, with artists as unusual people. Barnum opens the world of show business, transforming magic into a great circus show. The musical’s success was not only box office, it also reached high positions in the music charts for its original soundtrack, in addition to the Golden Globe for Best Song in 2018.
The continuation project is still in its initial phase and information such as plot or premiere forecast may take a while to come out.
