The awaited live-action in The Little Mermaid it looks like it finally has a start date for the recordings.
According to TheDisinsider, Disney plans to begin production of the feature in April in the Caribbean.
This makes it possible for the studio to target the release date for 2021, where Disney has three live-action projects scheduled.
The Little Mermaid was released in 1989, the feature marks the Golden Age of the studio’s animations in the late 80’s, and early 90’s, with Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, and all the previous ones have seen films in live-action.
In the plot, Ariel is a sixteen-year-old princess mermaid dissatisfied with life under the sea and curious about the world on earth. She falls in love with a human prince and makes a deal with the sea witch to transform herself into a human.
In the cast we have the actors Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy negotiates the role of the villain Ursula, and still Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina. The cast also complete Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Daveed Diggs as Sebastião.
Apart from Bailey, Disney did not confirm any other names.
Rob Marshall should drive, and Lin-Manuel Miranda produced new songs along with Alan Menken.
David Magee wrote the script.
