Crazy Rich Asians is doing very well at the American box office: the success of Warner Bros. this week, it broke the record for best box office rom-com since 2009, placing it in sixth place at the best box office of its kind at all times.
This is a significant achievement, as the numbers of rom-coms in theaters have declined considerably in recent years, although very recently they have gained a new profile that is putting them in emphasis again, due to the original productions of streaming services sites, such as Netflix and its success For All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
The film directed by Jon M. Chu tells of a young Asian-American woman who visits her boyfriend’s home in Singapore for his friend’s wedding party, but upon arriving there discovers that his dear is the heir to one of the oldest families rich in the country and one of the most coveted “bachelors”, making the girl’s life a living hell, whether by her mother-in-law or the envious on duty.
Despite all the success in the United States, the film has not yet reached Brazilian cinemas, with a premiere expected only for the 1st of November. Until then, read more about Podres de Ricos or meet other romantic comedy features on our website.
