Just Mercy narrates the trajectory of young lawyer Bryan Stevenson (Jordan) and his historic battle for justice. After graduating from Harvard, Bryan could have had a number of lucrative jobs. Instead, he goes to Alabama to defend those unjustly convicted, with the support of local lawyer Eva Ansley (Larson).
One of his first and most incendiary cases is that of Walter McMillian (Foxx), who in 1987 was sentenced to death for the murder of an 18-year-old girl, despite a series of evidences showing his innocence and the notorious fact that the only testimony against him came from a criminal with reason to lie.
In the years that follow, Bryan engages in a maze of legal and political maneuvers, in addition to the obvious racism, as he fights for Walter and other similar cases, with the odds – and the system – stacked against them.
Just Mercy is scheduled to open in the USA on December 25th.
