Mean Girls 2: dream or reality?

Mean Girls 2: dream or reality?

New rumors claim that a film sequence that marked a generation of young teenagers in 2004, Mean Girls, may be closer than you think. But is the movie really going to win a sequel after 16 years of release or is it just a big fan dream?

The first tip of hope for the continuation of the classic teenager was given by none other than the very Lindsay Lohan, the lead actress of the film, in 2017. In January, Lindsay, in an interview with CNN revealed that she was, in fact, trying to make a sequel to the film.

“It is not in my hands. I know that Tina Fey (the film’s screenwriter, who also acts as Professor Norbury), Lorne Michael (producer of the feature) and everyone is very busy. But I will press until it happens ”. “I already wrote a draft of the script,” she continued, “I just need an answer. I know that Mar Waters (the film’s director) would be happy to come back ”. This is so clay!

And, again, to the delight of the fans, in the same year, in an interview for the channel E! News, the actress returned to talk about the continuation and even said that she would only be missing Rachel McAdams to make sure that the whole cast was complete so that the film could be produced. The actress also praised the director and the screenwriter, as well as honoring Paramount’s support in the production of the film.

But, after two years, the fans believed that this would have been the end and the longed for continuation would remain for that very reason. Until in March 2019 Daniel Franseze, the film’s Damian, told the English website Metro that everyone involved would be excited for a remake, except screenwriter Tina Fey. Still harboring dreams, Franseze ensures that if Tina wrote the script for the film, everyone would be on board. And still ends the speech by calling it to participate!

In addition, Variety confirmed earlier this year that Paramount Pictures would be working on an adaptation of the Mean Girls musical, scripted by Fey in 2017. The screenwriter assured, “I’m very excited to bring Mean Girls back to the big screen. It is incredibly gratifying to see how much the film and the musical mean to the audience. I spent sixteen years with these characters. They are my Marvel Universe and I love them dearly ”.

The film tells the story of Cady, played by Lindsay Lohan, a girl who just arrived from Africa, and who is learning to deal with the school environment, since she used to study at home. Thus, the newcomer befriends Janis (Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (Daniel Franzese), who encourage her in a revenge scheme against a group of popular girls led by the iconic Regina George (Rachel McAdams). The film became one of the most popular teen films of the 2000s, being a milestone for pop culture and retaining fans to this day.

A second film was released in 2011, only in the DVD version and forgotten by fans, since it did not have any characters from the original film. It is not yet known how or when the adaptation of the musical made in 2017 will be released, nor who will be in it. But it is already known that the cast of the original film is excited and prepared to turn the dream of such a continuation into reality.
