Netflix is ​​expanding its catalog not only for all tastes, but for all countries: Luna Nera, a series announced in 2018 but still without great information released, is part of the streaming platform’s plan to grow in Italy, by alongside series like Suburra and Baby.

Lua Negra, as it has been called by the Brazilian translation, will be a production focused on telling the story of women who were accused of witchcraft in the 17th century in Italy. The script is based on the novel “Le città Perdute. Luna Nera”, by Tiziana Triana, expected to be published in November 2019 by Sonzogno Editore, in Italy.

The production will have the signature of Francesca Comencini, Susanna Nicchiarelli and Paola Randi, important local names. According to the Italian website Pellicola e Bobina, the plot synopsis follows:

Italy, 17th century.

After the death of a newborn, Ade, a 16-year-old midwife, is accused of witchcraft. Found refuge in a mysterious community of women at the edge of the forest, the girl is forced to make a choice: the impossible love for Pietro – son of the leader Benandanti, witch hunters – or the fulfillment of her true destiny, a threat to the world in that lives, divided between reason and mysticism.
