 List of musical films coming in theaters….  From In a New York Neighborhood to the new version of West Side Story!

At the end of 2017, The King of the Show it seems to have opened a crop of musical films to be released at the end of the year. Of course, since then we have not had many other hits like the infamous Cats (2019) and even Mary Poppins Returns (2018)

But the future looks promising for the genre, and the list of upcoming releases comes with lots of news, if the coronavirus does not prevent the launch of many of them.

So we have a lot of films adapted from plays and Broadway that will hit theaters in the coming months.

From the new version of the classic from the 60s, West Side Story even to the colorful In a New York neighborhood, we have separated a list of musical films to wait for 2020.

The lights come on in Washington Heights… The smell of a hot cafe it hangs in the air, just outside the 181 Street subway station in New York, where a kaleidoscope of dreams mobilizes this vibrant and close-knit community. In the middle of everything, we have the dear and magnetic owner of a grocery store, Usnavi (Anthony Ramos), which saves every penny of your workday while you cheer, imagine and sing about a better life.

Chu directs the film from a screenplay by Quiara AlegrĂ­a Hudes, which is based on musical theater, with songs and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, book by Quiara AlegrĂ­a Hudes and concept by Miranda.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie

The story of Jamie New a teenager from Sheffield, England, who wants to be a drag queen and you need to fight prejudice, bullying colleagues and your own fears.

With songs by Dan Gillespie Sells and based on the book by Tom MacRae, the musical version debuted in 2017, and was based on the documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 aired in 2011 in the UK.

He won several awards such as Best New Musical and Best Actor at WhatsOnStage Awards.

With Jennifer Hudson in the lead role, the musical will tell the life story of the legendary R&B singer, Aretha Franklin. The feature will accompany Franklin from when he was a young singer in the church choir until he became a superstar of international music.

A group of gay men gather in an apartment in NY to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Drinks are served, and the music starts to play, and over the course of the night their friendship will be put to the test where secrets will be revealed.

The play launched on Broadway in 2018 is based on the play by Mart Crowley written in the 1960s. The cast of the new version that stars the film. He won the Tony Award for Best Revival in 2019.

West Side Story
