John Boyega, an actor known primarily for his role as Finn in the Star Wars film franchise, has been a very important voice in #BlackLivesMatter that are happening in the last few days around the world, asking for justice for George Floyd and so many other black lives that were lost due to racism.
Boyega was present at the protest that took place in London’s Hyde Park, and said he is willing to give up his career if it is for the cause.
Check out John Boyega’s translated speech:
“We are a physical representation of our support for George Floyd. We are a physical representation of our support for Sandra Bland. We are a physical representation of our support for Trayvon Martin. We are a physical representation of our support for Stephen Lawrence. I am speaking to you from my heart. Look, I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after that, but fuck it.
I need you to understand how painful this is. I need you to understand how painful it is to be reminded every day that your race means nothing and that it is no longer the case, that it never happened again.
Today it’s about innocent people who were in the middle of the process, we don’t know what George Floyd could have achieved, we don’t know what Sandra Bland could have achieved, but today we’re going to make sure that this is not a strange thought for our young people. “
Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the same franchise, demonstrated support for Boyega’s cause and speech, stating on a social network: “I’ve never been more proud of you, John”.
