Javier Bardem tipped for live action of The Little Mermaid as King Merman!

It seems that the choices of the live-action actors of The Little Mermaid are being worked on very quickly.

After leaving that singer Harry Styles would be the Prince Eric in the film, today (17) the site Disinsider announced that the actor Javier Bardem can play the King of the Seas and Ariel’s father, Newt in the movie.

The publication further states that the live-action should give more prominence to the character’s mother, something that wasn’t shown in the animation released in the late 1980s, only in one of the sequences released in home-video.

In The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Story, launched in 2008, we see Ariel’s relationship with her mother Athena and the happiness of the kingdom alongside Triton and his daughters, until a pirate ship kills Athena and music, the thing she loved most, ends up being banned from Kingdom. Ariel and her sisters grow up taking orders from the King and housekeeper Marina, and disgusted without knowing why music was banned, since she was very young, she ended up discovering a secret club in which Sebastião is a member.

Launched in 1989, the feature marks the Golden Age of the studio’s animations in the late 80’s and early 90’s, with The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, all the previous ones have seen films in live-action.

In the plot, Ariel is a sixteen-year-old princess mermaid dissatisfied with life under the sea and curious about the world on earth. She falls in love with a human prince and makes a deal with the sea witch to transform herself into a human.

In the cast we have the actors Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy negotiates the role of the villain Ursula, and still Harry Styles, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina. Apart from Bailey, Disney did not confirm any other names.

Rob Marshall should drive, and Lin-Manuel Miranda produced new songs along with Alan Menken.

The live action of The Little Mermaid has no confirmed release date.
