Grupo Planeta and Netflix close partnership to launch books based on series

It was announced last week by Grupo Planeta that the publisher closed a deal with Netflix to publish books based on original series from the streaming platform. Initially, the projects will involve the three Spanish series La Casa de Papel, Elite and La Casa de Las Flores, which will mark the first releases of the partnership. As the terms indicate, at least twelve books can be released in the next 5 years, starting in the second half of 2019.

According to an announcement posted on Grupo Planeta’s blog, those responsible for the partnership comment:

“We are very excited about the association with Grupo Planeta to expand the reach and universe of ‘La casa de Papel’, ‘Elte’ and ‘A casa das flores’, three of our most universal Spanish series. our members worldwide and we are proud that Spanish-speaking writers are inspired by these great stories and characters, “said Paco Ramos, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix.

“In an increasingly globalized world, with a fine line between book publishing and audiovisual content, we are very happy with the agreement reached with Netflix and with the possibility of publishing the books in these series that are successful worldwide. We are convinced that the books will be a perfect complement to the series and that they will not leave their millions of viewers indifferent ‘, said Jesús Badenes, general director of the Books Division of Grupo Planeta.

In Brazil, Planeta de Livros Brasil will bring the Portuguese versions. There is still no previous date for the releases here.
