It was recently reported by Variety that Ava DuVernay is developing a series for Amazon Prime Video based on the book Awakening (Dawn), by Octavia E. Butler.

Originally published in 1987, it is part of a trilogy commonly called Lilith’s Brood, and accompanies Lilith Iyapo, a young black girl who is kidnapped and held captive by aliens after an apocalypse that annihilated part of the human race. Lilith suggests a truce and, throughout her journey, will try to restore humanity.

Check out the translation of the official synopsis:

Lilith Iyapo just lost her husband and son when atomic fire consumes the Earth – the last stage of the planet’s final war. Hundreds of years later, Lilith wakes up at the bottom of a huge alien spaceship piloted by the Oankali – who arrived just in time to save humanity from extinction. They kept Lilith and other survivors sleeping for centuries, while learning what they could on Earth. Now it’s time for Lilith to take them back to their home world, but life among the Oankali on the newly resettled planet will not be as it was before.

Ava will work alongside Victoria Mahoney, who is responsible for the series script and direction for the pilot episode. There is still no preview of the debut for Sére.
