The word superstition comes from Latin and means false worship / false religion. In general, it is the belief in things, usually without foundation.
We are surrounded by superstitions since we were born. Although there is no scientific proof that they are real, many people believe them faithfully. They are broadcast all over the world, and today we’ll talk about some of the strangest superstitions found in different countries.

1. Unlucky marriage
For many centuries, marriage was a completely commercial relationship. For fear that the groom would not like the future wife and would give up the wedding, the girl’s family hid her until the time of the ceremony, giving as an excuse that if the groom saw her before the wedding, it would bring bad luck.
2. China and the luck of the number four
The pronunciation of the number four in China is very similar to the pronunciation of the word “death”, so the Chinese consider the number four to be an unlucky number. Many buildings are constructed in such a way that the fourth floor is “excluded”.
For example, a five-story building has the first, second, third, fifth and sixth floors. And the same happens with other numbers ending in four, for example, a twenty-story building has the following floors (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22).
3. The gum and the zombie vibe
In Turkey, they believe that if you chew gum at night, the candy will turn into rotten human flesh, turning the person who consumes it into a zombie.
4. The killer fan
In South Korea, people believe that if you sleep and the fan is on, it will kill you. The superstition is so serious that many fans in the country already come with a timer to set the time that it will be turned off
5. The cursed broom
In Nigeria, it is believed that if a woman accidentally hits a man with a broom, he will be powerless, or even his genitals will disappear. The only way to combat this curse is to hit the boy seven more times using the same broom.
6. The Vermont Witches
There is a belief in the United States, more particularly in the state of Vermont, that the place is surrounded by witches and, therefore, there are several houses with diagonal windows, since witches cannot fly through crooked windows.
7. The red-haired baby
In Poland, it is believed that if a woman, when pregnant, looks at the fire for a long time, her baby will be born red.
