Warning: contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise Skywalker.
If you’ve seen the movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, you may have been unhappy with an unsolved question in the film: what was the big secret that Finn had to tell Rey?
The main public guesses aimed at a possible declaration of love, given the intimacy between the protagonists and the fact that Finn did not want Poe to be around when he was going to reveal his secret, but the answer is far from a romantic confession.
A fan who attended a conference at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed that, after the screening of the film, director JJ Abrams confessed to the audience present that Finn wanted to say that he is sensitive to Force.
Such information had already been speculated since 2015 with the release of The Force Awakens in theaters, with which Finn was quick to deal with a lightsaber, a weapon commonly wielded by a Jedi – or Sith.
The statement is present in The Ascension Skywalker, but in a discreet way that only the most attentive and curious fans could notice: when Rey dies after the battle against his grandfather, Palpatine, Finn feels his death in the same way that Leia had felt the of Han, or that Rey had felt that of Leia – an intrinsic characteristic of those who are sensitive to the Force.
Does this information give rise to John Boyega’s participation as a Finn Jedi in possible future films in the franchise? We will have to wait to find out. Meanwhile, the ninth episode of Star Wars has been in theaters since December 19, 2019.
