Coronavírus: Festival SXSW 2020 é cancelado nos EUA

Coronavirus, which is behind the current COVID-19 viral pneumonia epidemic, is responsible for canceling the SXSW 2020, annual festival of culture and technology. In 34 years, it is the first time that the South by SouthWest, the festival does not go according to plan.

THE edition 2020 it would take place from March 13 to 22 to gather hundreds of thousands of people and bring several hundred million dollars to the Texan city. However, in view of the increase in the number of cases of contamination in the United States, the government of the country preferred to cancel it to avoid risks to the health of the guests, since more than 550 infected people and 11 victims are currently registered in the country.

The cancellation occurred after a petition and a drop in the number of participants. The petition, formulated on the platform, gathered 55,000 signatures in favor of suspending SXSW 2020. The decrease in the number of participants included the following guests: Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Twitter, HBO, Facebook, Tik Tok, LinkedIn, Mashable, CNN and Intel.

Likewise, several music artists and record companies have left the festival: The Beastie Boys, Trent Reznor, Ozzy Osbourne, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music. To compensate for this cancellation less than a week before the festival starts, the SXSW organizers have promised to organize conferences and remote shows with the rest of the participants.

In addition, they plan to reschedule the event later in the year. In other words, for festival goers who already have their tickets, no refund would be provided for the moment.
