The list of films participating in the Cannes Festival 2019 was released today (18), check out more here, and with it we saw that the long Bacurau will be part of the selection and also participate in the dispute in the category In Competition.

According to the description, Bacurau it will be an adventure film set in Brazil “in a few years”. Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles wrote the script and directed the feature together.

And just as with the previous film by Mendonça Filho, Aquarius in 2016, Bacurau will have its world premiere at the main festival of the French festival.

“Bacurau it is a project that has been developed since 2009, when it was just an idea, until it was filmed in 2018. As the script changed, the country and our daily lives too. To debut in Cannes in 2019 is to give Brazil a place of respect, its cinema and its culture. ” the director said in a statement.

The synopsis of the film was also released:

A Brazilian western. An adventure and science fiction film.

A few years from now … BACURAU, a small town in the Brazilian hinterland, says goodbye to Dona Carmelita, a strong and beloved woman who died at the age of 94. Days later, the residents of Bacurau realize that the community is no longer on the maps.

In the cast we have Sonia Braga, Udo Kier, Lia de Itamaracá, Bárbara Colen, Thomás Aquino, Karine Teles and Antonio Saboia.
