CCBB-SP receives anime show with presentation of Japanese cinema classics

Sample Anime: The Fantastic World of Japanese Animations arrives at Banco do Brasil Cultural Center São Paulo, from 12 to 24 February, with free screening of films and debates. Tickets for sessions must be picked up at the box office an hour before.

The show, held with funds from the Culture Incentive Law, presented by the Ministry of Citizenship and the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center and sponsored by Bank of Brazil, will celebrate Japanese culture and the legacy of anime in the history of world animation. 15 films, classics and award-winning animations, of action, adventure, science fiction and comedy will be shown

This is a unique opportunity for the São Paulo public to delve into this art, which delights children and adults and brings together hundreds of fans. The curator Juliana Melo points out that “sample Anime: The Fantastic World of Japanese Animations proposes an overview of the production of anime feature films. With a mix of classics known to the public and referenced in the world, such as Ghost in the Shell: the Ghost of the Future and Akira, titles of renowned directors, such as Hayao Miyazaki’s Vidas ao Vento, and Satoshi Kon’s Paprika, besides works popular based on video game and manga franchises, the show explores the diversity of these fantastic animations“.

In addition to the screenings, there will be a debate about the film “Marnie’s Memories, ancestry and loneliness”With film critic, screenwriter and cultural journalist Lorenna Montenegro on 02/19, after the session (which will have a descriptive caption) of the film that starts at 6pm. The film, one of the last productions of the renowned Studio Ghibli, was nominated for an Oscar for Best Animation in 2016 and received several awards at festivals around the world.

On February 21, the debate will be about the work Akira with Cinthia Saty Fuji, illustrator, comic artist and visual development artist for animation, shorts and features, also after the 6pm session. Akira, in Katsuhiro Otomo, marked a generation when it was launched in the late 1980s, by extrapolating the oriental and fan barriers and presenting the art of anime to the world. In the story, two teenagers from a Tokyo gang end up involved in a top secret government project.
