On March 19, it was decided that the Cannes Film Festival would not take place on schedule. Many options were considered then, one of the proposals was to organize the festival in an online form. However, this idea was abandoned due to the history and tradition of the festival, which is not ready for such a model even in such a crisis situation.
The Deadline portal says that instead of May, the festival is expected to start at the turn of June and July – from June 23 to July 4. The event organizers at the moment cite the restrictions of the French government, which did not order the festival to be canceled. It was also confirmed that a quick and extensive consultation was carried out and the industry is determined to organize the festival.
The situation is of course dynamic. It is difficult to predict what the situation in France will look like in the above-mentioned period. At the moment, the number of infected in this country has exceeded 100,000 people and the number of deaths is about 10,000. Many film festivals have already been canceled, including those in Munich, Melbourne and Edinburgh. However, the authorities of the Cannes Festival are determined for the 73rd edition to take place this year.
