Enrolled among candidates to represent Brazil in the 2020 Oscar, The Invisible Life, the seventh feature film of the Ceará director’s career Karim Aïnouz, became the first Latin American title to be distributed by Amazon Studios in theaters in the United States. The negotiation was carried out by the German The Match Factory in partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the world’s largest talent agency, representing Aïnouz and the producer Rodrigo Teixeira in the North American country.
“We are very excited about this negotiation. The reception at festivals has been touching and certainly the acquisition of Amazon Studios gives an important seal to the film in the United States, in addition to reaffirming the potential that we believe the film has in dialoguing with different audiences.”, Says producer Rodrigo Teixeira.
Amazon, a giant in the global film market, was ahead of the distribution of titles, such as The apartment, winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2017, and Cold War, nominated in three award categories: best direction, best foreign film and best photography.
“Having a movie aired on a platform the size of Amazon is having the possibility of reaching a significant portion of viewers around the world. This seal reinforces the film’s ability to move between large audiences and is another unprecedented achievement for national cinema”, Says the director of the film, which, after opening in theaters, will be available on Amazon Prime Video, the streaming platform of the American company.
The feature film, adapted from the novel by Martha Batalha, has joint distribution of Showcase Movies and Sony Pictures, brings in the cast Carol Duarte, Julia Stockler, Gregorio Duvivier, Bárbara Santos, Flavia Gusmão and Fernanda Montenegro, as a guest actress.
The Invisible Life arrives on October 31 in national cinemas.
