Moira Walley-Beckett, screenwriter and producer for Anne with an E, recently stated on her Instagram profile that there is no way to save the series from cancellation, recently announced by Netflix and CBC.

She shares a letter with fans, published on Friday (06):

A letter to our fans: Thank you very much for your tweets, hashtags, DMs, emails, letters and messages. You overcame the internet and us! We hear their voices loud and clear (as well as CBC and Netflix) from around the world and we are very grateful for the generous outpouring of passionate enthusiasm for our program. We couldn’t be more honored, humble and deeply moved.

As difficult as it is to let go of the things we love (and we love this journey of doing ANNE WITH AN E as much as you loved watching it), there is simply no way to relive ANNE WITH AN E anywhere. Score. This will not happen. So now we need to love everything that exists and keep the joy and hope and admire the show that was brought to all of us who worked on it and everyone who watched it. And when you miss Green Gables, know that you can come back to him and he will always be there for you. ANNE WITH AN And will live forever in our hearts – just like you, our beloved fans

On the same day, he published yet another text thanking the hopeful campaigns, carried out by the fans on social networks, but regretting that there is nothing more that can be done:

I love you so much for trying so hard and fighting this fierce battle with your big hearts and beautiful souls. You are the force of nature. Look at this incredible work of art inspired by the love for ANNE WITH E! I mean, I am impressed and very grateful. I have been moved to tears so many times in the past few weeks … so many, many tears. This is my son. I created it, helped it grow, appreciate it and adore it. AnnE means everything to me. Please know that we fight too. We try to change our mind. We try to find a new home. We tried a final film … We tried our best.

“Aside from trying and winning, the best thing is to try and fail,” LM Montgomery said that. Anyway, we try: Art and Commerce is never an easy marriage. I usually find it inexplicable. This is one of those moments. But it is impossible to argue with words like Economics, Algorithms, Demography, etc. etc. But those words and other people like these are the reason why the Networks don’t want to continue. And we didn’t find a buyer anywhere else. I know you are upset and disappointed, sad and angry – I understand perfectly – because our beloved AnnE has been raptured.

If there was anything else to do, I would do it. So now you know what I know. I think this is a tragic novel, after all. But again, love is love is love is love is love. And love is not lost when it is nourished. We will always love our Anne with an E. We will always love Green Gables with all our heart and all that it represents. They can’t take that away from us, I love you very much. Thank you for fighting and loving my AnnE as much as I do.

Along with the texts, he shares behind-the-scenes images of the series and arts produced by fans, with illustrations inspired by Anne and other characters from the program. Check out one of the arts, credited to @emeriart, on Instagram:
